Marcellus Dining Armchair - Black crushed velvet

The Marcellus Dining Armchair combines sumptuous upholstery with a refined architectural frame, creating a statement dining chair with the comfort and presence of a compact lounge chair. Upholstered in black crushed velvet, the sweeping backrest curves around the body to form integrated arms, creating an enveloping and sophisticated silhouette.

The velvet's distinctive crushed pile produces subtle variations in depth and sheen as it catches the light, giving the black upholstery a particularly rich, tactile character. A slender warm bronze-tone metal frame traces the structure of the chair, contrasting elegantly against the dark upholstery.

With its sculptural curves, luxurious velvet and exposed metallic framework, Marcellus draws on the glamorous furniture language of 1970s Italian Modernism, reinterpreted for contemporary dining interiors.

Why You'll Love It

The black crushed velvet gives Marcellus considerably more depth than a conventional plain black dining chair. Light moves across the irregular velvet pile, revealing subtle tonal variations while maintaining the dramatic character of black upholstery.

Its warm bronze framework provides a sophisticated contrast, while the enveloping curved back and padded seat soften the chair's architectural construction. The result is a dining armchair that feels glamorous and distinctive without becoming visually heavy.

Styling Inspiration

For a 1970s Italian Modernist interior, pair Marcellus with a substantial dining table in dark walnut, smoked glass or dramatically veined stone. Add sculptural globe lighting and bronze accents. The combination of crushed velvet, curved upholstery and warm metal captures the rich materiality associated with glamorous Italian interiors of the period.

For Contemporary Luxe, place a set around an oval Calacatta, Nero Marquina or warm quartzite dining table. Keep the surrounding palette restrained—warm ivory walls, dark timber and architectural lighting will allow the black velvet to provide definition.

For a Boutique Hotel dining setting, combine Marcellus with dark timber wall panelling, floor-length textured curtains and low-level ambient lighting. Crushed velvet becomes particularly effective in evening interiors, where its changing surface catches pools of warm light.

For Art Deco Glamour, introduce smoked glass, polished stone and restrained bronze detailing. The black-and-bronze palette provides the required drama, while Marcellus's cleaner contemporary construction prevents the room from feeling overly period-specific.
