Bailey Armchair

The Bailey Armchair is a sculptural lounge chair defined by generous curves, layered upholstery and an enveloping low-profile silhouette. Upholstered in a warm taupe textured fabric, Bailey combines substantial proportions with carefully controlled curves to create a chair that feels inviting while retaining a distinctly architectural character.

Its deep cushioned seat is surrounded by a continuous rounded outer shell, while two softly rising inner arms lead towards the generously padded backrest. The back extends beyond the body of the chair in a distinctive overlapping form, giving Bailey an expressive profile from both the front and rear.

A recessed cylindrical base creates the impression that the upholstered body is floating slightly above the floor, finished with a slim bronze-tone plinth for a subtle metallic accent. With its cocooning proportions and fluid construction, Bailey draws particularly well from 1970s Italian lounge furniture and contemporary collectible design.

Why You'll Love It

Bailey has the visual comfort of an oversized lounge chair without relying on conventional boxy construction. Its design is built almost entirely from interlocking curves, creating a softer and more sculptural alternative to traditional armchairs.

The recessed pedestal is particularly important to the design. By pulling the base away from the outer edge of the chair, the substantial upholstered body appears lighter and almost suspended above the floor. The narrow bronze-tone detail then provides just enough contrast to define the base without interrupting the tonal composition.

Its neutral taupe upholstery also makes Bailey highly versatile. Rather than competing with surrounding furniture, the restrained colour allows its unusual proportions and layered construction to become the focal point.

Styling Inspiration

For a 1970s Italian Modernist living room, give Bailey enough space to be appreciated from multiple angles. Pair it with a low smoked-glass or richly figured burl wood coffee table, a deep chocolate rug and oversized abstract artwork. Add a sculptural Murano-inspired glass floor or table lamp to reinforce the chair's voluptuous period references without turning the room into a literal retro interior.

Bailey is also particularly suited to a Collectible Contemporary scheme. Position it independently beside a monolithic travertine or marble side table rather than placing it tightly against a sofa. Use large-scale artwork, architectural lighting and generous negative space so the chair reads as an individual design object.

For a sophisticated Boutique Hotel bedroom or dressing room, position a pair of Bailey chairs opposite the bed or beside a fireplace with a small stone table between them. Layer taupe, tobacco, bronze and warm ivory through the surrounding textiles and finishes. The chair's cocooning form is especially effective in spaces intended to feel intimate and luxurious.

For a softer Organic Modern interpretation, combine Bailey with honed limestone, warm oak, handwoven wool and subtly textured plaster walls. Keep the surrounding furniture lower and visually restrained so the chair's layered curves remain the dominant form.
